The Volpe Award
I'll always call my own guys on bullshit. Apparently, Monte Solberg believes that immigrants from countries which do not use Latin alphabets (Asia, eastern Europe, etc.) should receive special attention when it comes to teaching them English or French. Denis Coderre thinks that this makes him a racist.
Congratulations, M. Coderre! You have officially made a more ridiculous comment than Joe Volpe's "Conservative Klan" comment regarding the "Libranos" poster.

I am not a linguist so I cannot comment here. I think though Solberg should have checked with a linguist first before making this comment. Anyways not all white nations use the Latin alphabet, the Greeks, Russians, and Ukrainians use a different alphabet while some non-white countries use the Latin alphabet, i.e. Latin America, most of Africa, Vietnamese, and Filipino.
Anyways good award. How about the Teddy Bear award Volpe got for taxpayer's waste. Anyways this isn't the first time Coderre has gone over the top. He went after Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes and after Don Cherry on his comments. While I would be upset if a politician said what Don Cherry did, anybody who watches Hockey Night in Canada knows Don Cherry likes to be outrageous and make comments that stir the pot.
Hmm, yes, I think our friend Miles would also need a PhD in biology to tell him that humans need oxygen to live.

I know that's spam, but I just can't bring myself to delete it.
Ottawacon - Cyrillic is not just used by white nations, the Kazakhs and Mongolians also use it. Anyways I think his statement was innapropriate. Besides the Reform Party which he joined in the early 90s was a racist party at that time.

If you need a linguist to tell you that it's easier for a Dutchman to learn English than for a Vietnamese, then i'm surprised that you're able to reach a rational, reasoned conclusion on anything.
In any case, a language's alphabet less to do with determining the ease with which somebody learns a new language than do grammar similarity and syntax, so your comment about the Cyrillic alphabet is mostly irrelevant.
