New Sec.Def. not as crazy as Rumsfeld

That's encouraging, to say the least.

Bob Gates' testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee was refreshingly honest. When asked if he thinks the United States is winning the war in Iraq, he responded, "No sir." Gates also agreed that, at the outset of the war, there were not enough troops in Iraq. (Duh!)

Gates was rewarded with a 21-0 vote to approve his nomination as Secretary of Defence. Bravo, sir.

Gates seems to be rattling the White House with his candour*, as well, which is always a good thing.

*If candour is displayed by an American, should it be spelled "candor?"

Just a word about your blog graphic: "Only so many days until the Conservatives have air quality targets..." Very cute, but ponder this: The Liberals spent over 6 billion dollars on five climate change programs, had no plan, and no accounting measures, and the end result?: Nothing accomplished. That's not me speaking--that was the environment commissioner in September, 2006. I don't think you should be picking on the Conservatives. Perhaps you should be asking questions of the former Liberal environment minister. Let me think: What was his name? Oh, yes, now I remember: Stephane Dion
