I have no problem parachuting candidates in or people defecting. However, the timing of Emerson's defections and the reasons behind it look very suspicious. I would be interested to hear from Liberal caucus colleagues if any of them saw this coming. Also I would like to hear the NDP's reaction as had Emerson not been a strong cabinet minister under the Liberal government, this riding probably would have gone NDP. I say if Harper believes strong in ethics ask one of his Quebec MPs to step aside for Michael Fortier to run and ask David Emerson to seek a by-election. At least this would settle this mess.
I do think the decision to get Emerson to defect and Fortier who was not elected probably has to do with Harper wanting to have cabinet representation in Vancouver and Montreal. I wonder what he has up his sleeves for Toronto or is Jim Flaherty close enough to Toronto.

The Toronto piece is coming.
Get ready to scratch another name off of your Liberal leadership list.
