Harper refuses to cooperate with Ethics Commissioner

I guess we really shouldn't have expected anything more from him, but Stephen Harper has decided that the Ethics Commissioner is illegitimate. Therefore, he will not be cooperating with him in his investigation of the Emerson affair.

This guy has been in office for less than a month, and already he's proven beyond a doubt that he will be one of the sleaziest and most unaccountable prime ministers ever. Did anybody expect anything else?

I never saw the guy as ethical. While I know many Conservatives think Bernard Shapiro is a Liberal hack, which even Ed Broadbent claimed was the case, his refusal to cooperate suggests he is a sleazy politician. It also is common of Tories to blame everyone whether it is the media, courts, etc. as being liberal partisans. Maybe they should realize that they don't hold a monopoly on anything or that maybe most Canadians are liberal in their values so the biases are reflective of our country.

Anyone with a brain knows there is nothing solid here. Harper is making a mistake by not cooperating. He should just go through the motions and let it ride its way into insignificance. Much ado about nothing.

Harper never liked the idea of having an "ethics czar" overlooking everyone. Paul Martin used Shapiro to attack the credibility of opposition members when ever he wanted and slowed down investigations on his own members. Its not a surprise that Harper wants to get rid of the ethics commissioner.
