The forces of HELL?

"As you all very well know, marriage is under vicious attack now, I think from the forces of hell itself." - Looney McRightwing

I have a sudden urge to go "MWAHAHAHAHA!"

Harper sure has painted himself into a corner with this one.

I wonder if he'll be able to keep his MPs from making any damaging remarks.

Probably.

My understanding is the vote in the Fall will be a vote on whether to have a real vote on repealing the SSM law.

Follow me? I am not certain I do.

So if that is the case his nutjobs will probably wait until the real thing to really unload.

This will be another exercise in optics to appeal to his base and if the vote fails Mr. Harper can use that to further reinforce his lie that he is leading a "moderate" conservative government.

This is all part of his plan to win a majority so that he can have a real vote on repealing the SSM law that he has a chance of winning.

SH stated during the election campaign that the vote would be on whether to re-open the debate and introduce a Bill to repeal the same-sex marriage law; i.e a two-step process. Are there any limits on how soon Parliament can move to repeal a law (there are for municipalities in Ontario that decide they need to repeal a by-law) or could SH 'change his mind' and go for the real vote again in the autumn?

In the unlikely event the law is repealed, the Supreme Court will intervene to protect the rights of same-sex couples. SH will be even more motivated then to obtain a long-term, majority mandate which he would use to stack the Court so it stops its obstruction. Or why not go further and just abolish the Supreme Court since he and his cohorts all know it is the House of Commons which is 'supreme'!
